Hmm, it is only the 5th and I have already failed at the whole writing every day thing. I’ve been really busy and my laptop lives at work most of the time, but I do have Tom’s laptop available and the PC upstairs, so that is really sort of a weak excuse. Anyhoo, a brief update list…
- We are the proud new owners of a zippy little red convertible. The gas mileage that my truck gets, 13-ish miles per gallon, was not cutting it, so Tom purchased a third car. It is not very new and not in perfect condition, but it is absolutely awesome and very, very fun to drive and I was able to fill it up last night without the pump shutting off. Have I mentioned that my truck holds quite a bit more than one hundred dollars worth of fuel?
- We were at the river over the weekend and Saturday was a perfect day for floating. Later, in less than perfect circumstances, I was lying, wide-eyed, in my tent while Armageddon happened outside. I have never experienced a storm like that before. Constant, bright, flickering lightening and rolls of thunder that would last more than 30 seconds were just about enough to bring on a full blown panic attack. I had a lot of time to ponder whether the rangers would tell us if a tornado was coming, how fast the water would rise if the campground flooded (it had been under about 4 feet of water earlier this spring) and whether the tree we were camping under would fall on us or not if it were struck by lightning. Good times.
- We are heading to Orlando on Sunday. Tom is attending a conference and I am tagging along. I want to take a lot of pictures, read a lot of books and visit one day with my friend Kate, who will be driving up from Sarasota.
- We are three weeks into sand volleyball season and we have only won one of the six matches we’ve played. We aren’t great, but I love playing. I was on my school volleyball team when I was a sophomore in high school and, although I like the game, I hated everything else. The cool, popular girls at my school were not the cheerleaders, they were the jocks. If you weren’t playing a sport and worried about making the varsity team a year early, you just weren’t doing it right. I simply wasn’t that into it, so I couldn’t enjoy playing. Now, though, once you toss in good people and beer, volleyball rocks.
- I have health insurance again! In less than an hour I will be paying a totally reasonable co-pay to talk to a doctor. Sweet!
- I am terrible at losing weight. I don’t even want to talk about it.
- I’m heading to Wisconsin for the 4th of July. We will go to Summerfest in Milwaukee, visit with family and friends and, I hope, get hooked up with some delicious cheese curds and Hillsboro wieners.
