Bloat Early, Bloat Often

The first float of the season is two short days away.  Again this year, I am not as thin as I wish that I were.  Even worse, I’m not as fit as I should be.  I know that, under the pudge, there is some muscle.  I am pretty good at lifting heavy stuff, which is useful, but I’m not satisfied to keep it hidden.
This is a pretty common complaint and I know that I swear to myself that I will buckle down and do something about it frequently, but I am rarely successful.  It doesn’t help that a switch seemed to flip on my 35th birthday, slowing my metabolism even more.  Suddenly, all of my safe clothes, the shirts and pants that I could count on to get me through a bad bulge day were too small.
To complicate matters, I should really be in the middle of my training for the MS150 in September.  Instead, I am at the point where I know that I should really get the bike down from the hooks in the garage and get it serviced.  It is going to be a long two days if I don’t get my ass on that seat soon.
I don’t have any solution to my ever-larger problem, other than the obvious eat-less-exercise-more thing that I can’t seem to master.  I am feel ing all kinds of proud of myself right now because I made it to tae kwon do on Tuesday and walked 5 miles last night, but two days of being “good” doesn’t negate the fact that the pants that I’m wearing still don’t fit.
